Kumbh Vivah in Trimbakeshwar for Manglik Dosh
Kumbh Vivah is a Vedic ritual in which a girl with Manglik Dosh is first married to a kumbh – a sacred clay pot worshipped as Lord Vishnu – before her real wedding. It is believed that the harsh effect of Mars (Mangal) passes to the kumbh, so that the real marriage is peaceful. For men, the same remedy is Arka Vivah. Both take a few hours and are done at Trimbakeshwar.
- For Manglik Dosh

Meaning
What Is Kumbh Vivah?
Kumbh Vivah is a symbolic marriage done for a girl who has Manglik Dosh in her kundali, before her real wedding. The kumbh is worshipped as Lord Vishnu, and the girl is married to it with the full Vedic vivah vidhi – sankalp, kanyadaan, saat phere and mantras.
After the vidhi, the kumbh is immersed in holy water. It is believed that the harsh effect of Mars goes with the kumbh, so that the girl's real marriage is peaceful and long.
Kumbh Vivah is a remedy, not a real marriage. It does not change the girl's status, and it is kept private within the family. After it, the real wedding is done as usual.
Kumbh Vivah vs Arka Vivah vs Ashwattha Vivah
The same remedy has different forms. The right one depends on whether it is for a girl or a boy.

Manglik Dosh
What Is Manglik Dosh?
Manglik Dosh (also called Mangal Dosh or Kuja Dosh) is formed when Mars (Mangal) sits in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of the kundali – and in some traditions also the 2nd. Mars is a fiery planet, and in these houses it is believed to bring anger, arguments or delays in married life. That is why it is checked during kundali matching.
Mars in a Manglik house
Mars is in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house, counted from the Lagna. Many astrologers also check it from the Moon and Venus.
Strong or mild
Mars in the 7th or 8th house is usually seen as stronger. In other houses it is often seen as milder.
When it may be cancelled
It is often seen as cancelled when both partners are Manglik, when Mars is in its own sign (Aries, Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn), or when Jupiter aspects Mars.
After the age of 28
Many people believe the effect of Manglik Dosh becomes weaker after 28 years of age. This is a popular belief; the kundali should still be checked.
No need to fear. Many people are Manglik – about half of all kundalis have Mars in one of these houses. Manglik Dosh does not mean a marriage will fail. It only means the kundali should be matched carefully, and a simple remedy like Kumbh Vivah can be done before the wedding.
Is it for you?
Who Should Do Kumbh Vivah?
Kumbh Vivah is usually advised before marriage, after the kundali is checked. It is not needed for everyone who is Manglik – Guruji first looks at the full kundali, and the kundali of the partner if it is available.
Main reasons
When Kumbh Vivah is usually advised.
- A girl with Manglik Dosh, especially with Mars in the 7th or 8th house.
- When the partner is not Manglik and the dosh is not cancelled.
- When the astrologer advises it during kundali matching.
- When marriage talks keep breaking or getting delayed, and the kundali shows Manglik Dosh.
- For a boy with Manglik Dosh, the same remedy is Arka Vivah.
When to do it
The timing matters for this remedy.
- Before the real wedding – never after it.
- On a good muhurat, usually some days or weeks before the wedding.
- After the girl is of marriageable age.
- Not during Pitru Paksha, Adhik Maas, or when Guru or Shukra is set (asta).
- Guruji fixes the exact day from the girl's kundali.
Please note: Manglik Dosh alone is not a reason to stop a marriage. Many Manglik people have happy marriages. Kumbh Vivah is a traditional remedy for peace of mind, done with the family's faith – it is kept private and does not change the girl's status in any way.

Why Do Kumbh Vivah at Trimbakeshwar?
Kumbh Vivah can be done at many holy places, but families often choose Trimbakeshwar so that the remedy is done with the full vidhi, near a Jyotirlinga.
Kumbh=Lord Vishnu+Jyotirlinga
In Kumbh Vivah, the kumbh is worshipped as Lord Vishnu. The Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga has three small faces of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh in one linga. So the girl's symbolic marriage to Vishnu is done in the presence of all three, which families see as a strong blessing for the real marriage.
Mangal shanti with Shiva's blessing
Mars is calmed through the worship of Lord Shiva, so the remedy is done near His Jyotirlinga.
Holy water of the Godavari
The Godavari begins here at Brahmagiri hill. The vidhi starts with a holy dip in the Kushavarta Kund.
Full vivah vidhi
Pandits here do Kumbh Vivah with every step of a Vedic wedding – not a short version.
Kept private
Families travel here so the remedy is done quietly, away from home, with only close family present.
Puja vidhi
Kumbh Vivah Vidhi – How It Is Done
Kumbh Vivah follows the steps of a Vedic wedding, done in a short and simple form. The girl and her parents take part, and Guruji guides them at every step.
Holy dip and Ganesh puja
The family takes a holy dip in the Kushavarta Kund. Lord Ganesh is worshipped first.
Sankalp
Guruji takes the sankalp with the girl's name, gotra and the reason – peace from Manglik Dosh and a happy married life.
Kumbh sthapana and Vishnu puja
A kumbh is filled with holy water, and Lord Vishnu is invoked in it and worshipped. The Navagrahas and Mangal are also worshipped.
Kanyadaan and vivah vidhi
The parents do kanyadaan, and the girl is married to the kumbh with mangal sutra, phere and Vedic vivah mantras.
Visarjan of the kumbh
The kumbh is then immersed in holy water. It is believed that the harsh effect of Mars goes with it.
Havan, aarti and blessings
A short havan for Mangal shanti, aarti and blessings complete the vidhi. The girl wears new clothes after the vidhi.
Kumbh Vivah takes about 2 to 3 hours and is done in one day. Usually only the girl and her close family are present.
